It comes with enough seating for approximately one thousand viewers. There is seating along sheet one for approximately seven hundred spectators, while the main level lobby and lounge make room for another 300 viewers. The present Assiniboia Curling Club was very proud to host the following events.
We are also very proud to have been selected to host the following upcoming events.
LoungeThe lounge is located in the upper level of our curling rink. There is excellent viewing for approximately 150 spectators. There is no problem seeing all curling action from anywhere behind the glass. The lounge also provides a billiards table, a shuffleboard table, and a big screen television for entertainment purposes following a game of curling. History Of The Assiniboia Curling Clubcourtesy of Bill BattyThe first Curling Rink was built by the Assiniboia Curling Club in 1913, which ended up burning down in the spring of 1925. In the fall of 1925 a new four sheet Curling Rink was built by a new organization called the ASSINIBOIA CURLING RINK COMPANY LIMITED. The money was raised by this new company by selling shares. In 1949 the Curling Rink was widened to make six sheets of ice. On April 24, 1957 a public meeting of Assiniboia curlers was held to discuss the formation of a new association to take over the assets and liabilities of the previous ASSINIBOIA CURLING RINK COMPANY LIMITED, which resulted in a new association being formed called the ASSINIBOIA CO-OPERATIVE MEMORIAL CURLING CENTER. In 1961 this new association installed an artificial ice plant for the six sheet Curling Rink. In 1971 the waiting room was taken down and a new cement block waiting room was built onto the old Curling Rink. In 1973 the rest of the old Curling Rink was taken down and a new four sheet cement block Curling Rink was added to the cement block waiting room completing the new Curling Rink. In 2001 this four sheet cement block Curling Rink was demolished and a new multi-purpose Community Center was erected, which included a four sheet Curling Arena. This new Curling Rink was erected with four inches of foam insulation under the curling ice floor which is a great improvement in maintaining a much better curling ice surface.
